2010: April: Gigi

Friday 30th April to Saturday 8th May

By Lerner & Loewe, directed by Deanna Capper

Young Gigi is all arms and legs and giddy enthusiasm.  Can this irrepressable tomboy be turned into a courtesan elegant enough to conquer love-besotted turn-of-the century Paris?  Mais oui!  And what happens when love conquers Gigi?  Ooh la la!

This is an adaptation of a Colette novel - with a sparkling Lerner & Loewe score which many will remember as a delightful film with Leslie Carron in the title role and Maurice Chevalier, with all his Gallic charm, gallantry personified whether singing the praises of the young love ('Thank Heaven for Little Girls') or love long past ('I Remeber It Well').

With lavish costumes (generously sponsored by Nick Trayford and hats supplied by Joan Pressley Hats) this will be a musical romp as bubbly as champagne - so come and join in the excitement of 'The Night They Invented Champagne' chex Maxims - vive l'amour!

Tickets £7 and £8, booking from 15th March

Books and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, music by Frederick Loewe. Based on a novel by Colette. As produced by Edwin Lester fro the Los Angeles and San Francisco Civic Light Opera Associations and by Saint Subber for Broadway. Perfromances are given by arrangement with MusicScop and Stage Musicals Ltd of New York.
