2009: April: Kemp's Jig

By Chris Harris

One Performance Only, Saturday 25th April at 7.30pm

Actor, writer, director, and international performer Chris Harris tells the remarkable story of one man's 125 mile Morris Dance from London to Norwich in nine days. Will Kemp a purveyor of mad jests and merry jigs was an Elizabethan actor and a shareholder with Shakespeare in the Company of the Lord Chamberlain's Men.

Besides his fame as Shakespeare's clown (many of the Bard's comic roles may well have been written with Kemp in mind) he was an accomplished dancer and recorded his nine day journey in "Kemp's Nine Daies Wonder", the book on which this show is based.  This show has been performed at the Royal National Theatre, on television, broadcast on radio and seen in 57 countries.

'A wonderfully sustained piece of clowning and story-telling' - Ned Chaillet, The Times.  'A masterpiece of comic acting' - The Guardian. 'An enthralling evening in company with a theatrical original' - The Herald, Melbourne.

Tickets £10, booking from 16th March.
