Stalin in Siberia (16+)
In January 1914 the Czarist secret police finally arrested violent revolutionary Josef Vissiaronovich Djugashvili, who would be known to history as Stalin. He and fellow Bolshevik Jacob Sverdlov were exiled to Siberia. Their plot to escape was betrayed and they were sent even deeper into the frozen wastes, to the tiny settlement of Kureika where Stalin met and seduced 13-year-old orphan Lidia Pereprigina, with whom he had two children, one of whom survived. But it was Stalin’s relationship with a band of hunters that informed his future conduct as dictator of the Soviet Union and as one of the most ruthless leaders in history.
